British 11TH HUSSARS Officer’s Mameluke Sword

Mameluke Sword Cavalry Regiments of the British Army of CAPTAIN ALEXANDER THOMAS LIVINGSTONE GILROY, 11TH Prince Albert’s Own HUSSARS BY HENRY WILKINSON, PALL MALL, LONDON, NO. 25808 FOR 1884 of regulation type, with curved blade with a spear point, etched with the crowned Royal cypher, battle honours for Salamanca, Peninsula, Waterloo, Bhurtpore, Alma, Balaklava, Inkerman and Sevastopol, crowned Regimental number and device, the sphinx, the owner's crest and maker's details, gilt-brass hilt cast in low relief, applied with the regimental sphinx and battle honour 'Egypt' in white metal on each face, ivory grip-scales, in its scabbard retaining some plated finish and with gilt-brass mounts (one locket screw missing) and two rings for suspension 81.0 cm blade . Alexander Thomas Livingstone "Alistair" Gilroy was born 4th October 1865 in Monifeith, Angus, Scotland. He is recorded as Lieutenant in the 11th Hussars 1884 and Captain in 1890.
