1857 Pattern Portsmouth Division Submarine Miners Captain W.H Sword

This example carried by Captain William Hawley. The blade with etched decoration depicting a Crowned VR cypher, the regimental title “Submarine Miners”. Also with the initials “W.H.” The forte with the retailers details of Hobson & Co 1,3 & 5 Lexington St. The hilt of the regulation pattern with gilt brass guard and shagreen grip. Housed in steel scabbard. Hobson & Son operated with this address from 1887-1901. Officer with the initials “W.H.” has been serving with a Submarine Miners” unit. That being Captain William Hawley of the Portsmouth Division who was commissioned 4th March 1889 and Captain 4th March 1893.
