A 19th Century Regia Marina Naval Sword, the 70.5cm single edge pipe back steel blade etched with a fouled anchor and crossed oars flanked by foliage, the gilt brass gothic hilt cast with a crowned eagle with cross to its breast over an anchor, with hinged guard, wire bound fishskin grip and lion head pommel, with associated brass mounted leather original scabbard. Overall length is 83.2 cm The Royal Navy (Italian: Regia Marina, was the navy of the Kingdom of Italy (Regno d'Italia) from 1861 to 1946. On the back of the blade Inspection marking ‘Coulaux aine et Cie a Klingenthal’ which means in ‘Coulaux the elder and company, in Klingenthal’. The Coulaux family of blade makers to have dominated the Klingenthal factory the French Government’s main blade factory for much of the 19th century.
